weak ea81 starter

Featured Replies

i put a high compression ea82 in my hatch, and i think the little starter cant take it. it drains the battery in a few cranks. it has done this to two different batteries. it gets down to about 11.5 volts and wont turn any more.

so my question is, should i swap in another ea81 starter. or the starter from the ea82? prolly a dumb question, but does the ea82 starter bolt right on to the ea81 tranny?

are they even differnt part numbers? just stumblin through the residual headaches of a converstion here.

i heard all the starters were the same execpt for auto tranny

starters, which are shorter.

i couldnt see any difference between ea81 and ea82 starters,

unless they were already mixed up when i got em

if the starter has an internal short, it will draw mpre amps and put out less power.

Or that the battery is getting old & wearing out and has low CCA (Cold Current Amps) rating same with my wagon, they battery was about to go and had weak starting rating, so wacked in a new battery in, not a problem, or your alternator could be on its way out?

Cheers

Tristan

The EA81 and EA82 starters are identical as far as I can tell - having had both of them apart, and having an EA82 one in my Brat right now....

I think someone said even the EJ starters are the same....... don't quote me on that one tho.
