Thrown Rod

Featured Replies

One of my wife's co-workers has been borrowing my '83 2wd 5spd Sedan that I bought at auction for $75. I didn't realize that it had an oil leak, so she hadn't been checking the oil and it ran very low early last week. Friday it blasted a rod through the top of the engine.

I'm not sure if I'm going to fix it or part it out, but I'll post pics of the carnage when I get a chance to take some.

if u decide to let it go, i have a spare motor, and tranny. . one of us here might want it for a good price...

i would like to see the pics...

You mean she didn't see the oil light that definitely would have come on before accomplishing the impossible of sending a Subaru rod through the block?

Sorry to read this, what a bummer!

Suby, my bet is it had a gauge and no idiot light, with all the malfuntioning sender units on these cars, she could have ignored it. With solid lifters it probably made little noise before the kaboom.

Sweep the vultures do,w/ no condolenses.

sometimes they still run when they do that

have seen them fire a rod through the power steering pump and run on 3 cylinders, makes some interesting noises.

noah, jim os interested in the car, give him a hollar

what is up with soobs blowing rods lately?

roberts just running today broke a rod thru the block, intake gasket failure

myoss feece's RX is knocking bad all of a sudden(carb block project now)

and to top it off, the 4wd conversion sedan lost its entire custom dual exhaust clean off the motor

but my car runs fine! but it has a bent wheel, broken axle..
