May 12, 200817 yr I did a search on the SPFI EA81s but I was trying to find more about an EA81 Carb in a Gen3. I know that it seems kinda pointless to do but I want to use the intake off of an EA82 and the long block of an EA81. I hope I am making sence. Has anyone everdone this? Is it a Better Idea to just use the intake and long block of the EA81? I would like to use the EA82 intake to have everything match up linkage wise. And for the dist. do you use the EA81 or EA82? I should do a search for that but as I was typing I just though of that. You can even let me know if this is a good idea or bad idea. this is somthing I've been kicking around in my mind, and today Scott in Bellingham stoped by, and I told him about it. After I told him about it I started to think that I don't know if it will work or not. Anyways I'm rambling on so let me know what you think Jeff
May 12, 200817 yr Author Just EJ it You got one laying around? The only reason I would do it this way is because I have 2 hanging out on the floor, and I think that the EA81 is better than the EA82. Not that I am trying to bad mouth the EA82, but they kinda scare me, I've had kinda bad luck with them. Jeff
May 12, 200817 yr If you are doing a carbed EA81 in an EA82 car, that is exactly what I did with the Beast. The intake from an EA82 should fit an EA81 fine, I know Jerry in Selah did this on his hatch brat, and I did it on the Beast, but on my motor I had to make spacers cuz the manifold was hitting the block in the middle. On the motor in my Brat though, the EA82 manifold went on with no problems.
May 12, 200817 yr I have an EA-82 carb intake on my EA-81 also. Alt bracket had to be trimmed a bit to clear manifold. It sits real close to the seam of the case halves, but there is an air gap under the manifold. If this vehicle isn't lifted, the EA-82 lower radiator hose works for the new upper hose, just needs a slight bit of trimming.
