I just bought a 2001 Subaru Outback. I noticed the head lights stay on even when I have the lights off. Even in the day time. Can anything be done to get the lights to go off? They do go off if I put on the emergency break.

It's an auto transmission

Thanks

Those are the daytime driving lights (lower power). It's generally acknowledged that they are for safety purposes, and may be required by law (on a state-by-state basis). I think that the consensus here is if you don't want them on drive with one notch of e-brake to activate the off-switch, but not the brakes.

Call us back when you can't get he parking lights to turn off, and we'll explain that too!
