Can i put a turbo on a non turbo motor

Featured Replies

I have recently got a subaru wagon that has a shot motor and im scraping it for parts! i am wanting to know if i can jus unbolt that turbo and bolt it up to my 86 dl sedan? i thing it is an ea81! Pleas help:-\

Sure can! Just make sure you swap the entire exhaust. The engine crossmember.

If you dont want to blow your motor up, i suggest you swap blocks as well. If the motor is originally a carburated motor, then you will need to swap your intake manifold, your wiring harness & install the ECU.

Oh, and its probably a EA82...

I'm not sure if it will bolt up or not, but basically you don't want to do it. The naturally aspirated engines have a lot higher compression than the turbo engines, so if you put a turbo on one you will probably start blowing head gaskets right away.

Above and beyond all that, it would probably be a heck of a lot of work to adapt an EA81 turbo setup to an EA82 motor.
