May 20, 200817 yr My hood release is hard to operate. By hard, I mean that I have to pull with over 50lbs of force or more to pop it open. Can I adjust this? Where and how? Does anyone know where to lubricate the system? Heres hoping I don't bust the cable before this gets sorted out.

Or the cable just getting tired. Either way,you have lube and replace as options only. Good luck. I have several of these in new and good used condition. If you can wait untill June then ask me, I can hook you up. Also have latches in good used condition.
May 21, 200817 yr you're welcome to the one off my brat... i'm using pins so the latch is no longer needed. mine worked fine since removal. i would just need to find all the bits... i'm about 1.5 hours from bellingham if the boarder is crappy...

It's just that my '80 Brat is kinda doing this same thing. I can pull the release, and you hear it unlatch, but the hood doesn't "pop" up so I can get in there to push the lever and lift it up. It'a a real PITA! Paul, could you add a new cable system to my radio order? Best to be prepared I'm thinkin' Thanks a bunch, Bobby

Best to be prepared I'm thinkin' Thanks a bunch, Bobby Sure will, but also check that the latch itself isn't starting to mangle. Might have to remove the grill and the latch to view it properly. Takes only a few minutes - grill 4 screws - latch 2 bolts and then carefully work the latch out to view it. If you have A/C be carefull of the condenser fins. Trying to replace a cable right now but with the moving I have going on I can't seem to take any time to get this done as easy as it should be.And it needs to be done so I can park the car elsewhere without worrying about someone opeing the hood and ripping off my battery, etc. When I pulled the latch out I could see the loops around the receiver were well bent up,like everyone else's I suppose. They (latches) have that reputation of tweaking out. One thing that I'm pretty sure is holding me up is the clamp that holds the cable onto the radiator support - its not there :-\ so I need to hunt one down. Without the cable being locked down at that point the entire cable will just slide with your every pull.
May 22, 200817 yr Adjusting the latch up or down a little will help with the tightness of the hood cable a little.
May 22, 200817 yr They fray inside like the clutch cables do and causes them to stick. Replace it even with a used one that works nice at the yard and youll be done.
