TeamCF
So I went to Discount Import today to pick up a new axle, bearings, seals. ($115 for all) Anyway. I asked how much for a clutch while I was there as I'll be needing one when I drop in the "new" engine. They have to order it for my 83 GL wagon 4x4. But it would seem they had one on the shelf for an 83 GL hatch 4x4. And they said that the book/computer says they are different. (I was under the impression that they would have the same engine trans combo, and same clutch) Any truth to this? And I'm just mistaken. Or is thier book/computer wrong. Just wondering. chef_tim
They should be the same. The difference is between 2wd and 4wd. I often use an 84 wagon to get parts for my 86 hatch, just so I'm sure I get the right part. Later, Tim
GeneralDisorder
They should be the same, but beware when ording clutch kits. 80 to 82 4WD's used the same 200mm clutch as the 2WD's. 83 on used 225mm for 4WD, and 200mm for 2WD. They could have a glitch in their computer parts system, and one or the other might in fact be a 200mm instead of the proper 225. Also with cars this old you never quite know what you'll find - best to open it up and see how big the clutch is before you buy one. GD

I'll take a tape measure when I go to pick one up.

Not sure on brand but they usualy have always sold me better quality stuff in the past. (other than the one wrong seal I didn't notice till I went to put my axle in tonight. ) The dealer is cheaper than that?
michael appel
125 and remember it is original subaru part not aftermarket which is close enough I have bought to many clutches and dealt with the right clutch plate wrong clutch vise versa but subaru seems to be right all the time and cheaper then the parts place I know weird that the dealer ship is cheaper but you would be surprise in things they carry cheaper then the auto parts stores

For wheelin' I Would think it would be nice to have a genuine clutch. That is unless someone offers some sort of high performance clutch for it.... proly not though. And keeping it on the cheap (but quality) is nice. Now $125 was for disk, pressure plate, and bearing? (as in the whole kit)
chef_tim
Don't forget to throw reman vs new in to the equation too. I use LUK brand clutches in mine. They are new, come as a full kit... Disk, PP, throw out bearing, pilot bearing and as a bonus the pilot tool. Usually about $200 Later, Tim
GeneralDisorder
You can use the XT6 pressure plate, and 83+ 4WD EA81 disc with an EA82 flywheel if you use a throwout bearing for a Nissan 720 truck. That would be the best option for a wheeler and you would already be setup for a 5 speed swap - just change the disc. GD

Let the metal to metal scraping sound upon letting out the clutch go too long. *smacks self*
TeamCF
whole kit came with everything Cool. Lots of options have been given to me here. Gonna have to check it all out. I'm liking the sound of GD's wheeler clutch setup.
