Not that it is difficult, but time consuming. The engine or the trans needs to come out.

Are you talking about the rear main seal or the pinion seal for the rear differential?

Or the seal where the driveshaft goes into the transmission?

And, to further complicate matters, it can leak between the flange and the pinion shaft, where there is no seal. A little silicone under the nut seems to do the trick here.
