The light for my odometer and the shift indicator (on the center console between the seats) went out on the same day. Kind of sounds like a short. Does anyone know what kind of light they take or what the problem might be?

They are old. If it was a short they would all be out and you would smell the magic smoke.

 

The dash comes out easily, you'll find maybe more then one bulb out. The PRND321 bulb is easy to see, but a bit of a bear to get out.
