Should the crankshaft pulley on my '86 GL EA82 have a key or a pin that centers/holds pulley in place to the crank? My basket case didn't have one and now my crank pulley came loose using just the bolt and washer (no pin/key) while running the engine.

No - there is nothing but the bolt for the crank pulley's on the NA EA82's. You didn't put enough torque on it if it came loose.
