bad alternator?

Featured Replies

going down the road my voltage will follow my rpms on my 86 brat. but somtimes it will work fine. is this the alternator or a voltage regulator? anyway if it is the alt i guess i would like to upgrade. i have seen people write on xt6 and gm. i think someday i would like a winch so. anyway just looking for advice and options thanx.

Related question: Are the Gen 2 Brat alternators internally or externally regulated? If external where is it mounted?

1. Yes your alt is bad.

2. The easiest swap is an early (around 85) 90 amp Nissan Maxima alt. Next easiest is probably the XT6 alt but they are quite expensive, and the GM requires the most mods.

3. All '82 and newer Subaru's are internally regulated, and that includes all gen 2 Brat's.
