Front Strut Replacement on '99 OBW

Featured Replies

It's time for new front struts on my '99 Outback Wagon. The car is a regular daily driver (no off-road, racing, etc.) and I'll be doing the work myself. Can anyone recommend a supplier and/or brand name of struts you've been happy with? Thanks

KYB.

Or Subaru OEM struts. They're made by KYB, and are usually a bit less expensive than the aftermarket KYBs.

If Subaru units are priced well, then get them from an online dealer unless your local dealer gives you "online" pricing. Subarupartsforyou.com or a few others are fine to deal with.

ive had good results from my NAPA store...dont remember what brand but they were priced extremely well.....speaking of... that reminds me i have to do my rear struts sometime in the near future on my 96'.....;)

Got mine from NAPA, decent price, and mine is only a daily driver.

World of difference with new struts.

besides being 11 years old with 130,000 miles, what is a good indication of strut wear? I prob need them but ?????

Well, here's how Dragon failed on her rear pax strut:

Push on the hood/hatch/trunk hard. Car should bounce ONCE and stop. More bounces? Something's Bad.

Look at the car from all angles on a known FLAT surface. One side/corner/end lower or higher than the others? Not good.

Get under the car and look at the assemblies. Grease/wet spot on a strut? Bingo, we have a replacement coming.

As you can guess, I need a new rear strut. Not to hijack the thread, but is Subaru a car which needs a PAIR of struts when replacing, not just a single replacement on an axle?
