intercooler ?/problem

Featured Replies

Last nite I hooked up a saab 900 intercooler on my 87 turbowagon. My problem is that is didn't have enough time to hook up the bypass valve or do anything with the pcv valve. I just left the hose that runs into the stock intake metal piece from the pcv open. The car would fast idle for about 5 seconds and then just die. Is the cause no bypass valve or pcv. I remember hearing someone say on the board that they ran all of their pcv valves to a separate air filter?

Mitch, I'm corn fused (very easy to do)I have a few 87 vintage EA82Ts, none have a PCV connection to the stock intake metal piece

if by this you mean the part that has "Subaru Turbo" cast in it? I call that the intake plenum.

I also have all my PCV lines (incl. PCV valve, cam covers and MAF to turbo pipe connection) connected together and run to an external filter.

If you have a BPV connected to the IC and not to the MAF to turbo pipe and it is opening too soon this will cause what you are descibing.

Did you connect the vacuum line for the BPV?

OR you left the line to the intake plenum from the AAV (connects on the under side of the plenum's "neck") off, it will do this also.

(That's an easy one to miss)

Sorry I couldn't help more as I said I'm corn fused.

The AAV was what I was talking about. I mixed up that and the pcv valve. Sorry again. It is the hose that connects to the nipple that is on the underside of the intake plenum (with Turbo 4WD cast into it) that I left unconnected. So i need to plum that into the intake after the intercooler? Also, do you think wrapping any of the IC piping with a heat wrap/header wrap would help keep temps down? Thanks for all the help.

that hose would need to be after the IC if i understand you right...maybe skip can back me up here.

no opinion on the header wrap on the IC, never tried it personally
