So ive talked on here before about haveing some blower motor issues. Well when i removed the old one to replace it with another quieter used one i found tons of leaves in the air duct. Ok so i go to unplug the old one only to find that its hardwired. The one out of my 93 wagon is a plug n play but on my 88 dl its hard wired. So should i go ahead and splice and hard wire the new one in, or try to oil the one already hardwired and hope for the best. It still works its just annoying.

If its already out, you might as well fix the wiring and install the newer one.

To be honest, I would cut the wires to the old one and remove it. Then, I'm just assuming that the '93 you have is a parts car(yes/no?), I'd go and cut both ends of the harness off, splicing the harness end to the respective wires via solder covered by some heat shrink tubing, and Voila! Then if the blower motor fails again, you can just go to the parts store and purchase one for a '93 and just plug it in. That would be my take on the situation.

What im going to do is. Ive cut the plug in cord from the parts car and im going to hard wire that to my regular car. So in the future if something happens i get a newer one with a plug n play socket:grin:

 

Im curious if anyone else can chime in on if the older ea82s all have hard wired blower motors, and it was just in the latter 3 years they switched to a plug and play type.

I've had EA82 wagons from 86 to 92, all have the same plugs & connectors on the heater blower.

my parts car is a 93

My '86 GL wagon had the blower on a connector. Every blower I ever pulled at PAP had a connector. Odd that yours was hard-wired in. But good choice for you is to splice in the connectors and not have to worry about it in the future.
