Vanishing coolant leak.

Featured Replies

For the life of me i can figure out where the hell this thing is leaking from and why it only does it sometimes. A few weeks ago i was geting puddles in the middle, then tonight it was on the left. And they all stop after a while. Running, cold, hot it doesnt matter. I wish i just knew where the freekin problem was so i can plan my attack. Its got 200 thou on teh clock so take your pick, rotten hoses, bad radiator, leaky gaskets. Who the hell knows. Im about to try and take a loan out to buy someother car. I cant have this thing let me down man. If i miss one more day before the end of the year i get canned. Cummon suby gods, rain gifts on me.

hardest leak to find list:

heater hoses, abraided by clutch lever, impossible to see rubbing

little booger manifold hoses

waterpump hoses

rad drain cock and sensors

rad cap

rad "header" leaks

leaks between hose and pipe

look at the hose between the block and the manifold. usually this leak will dry up as fast as it leaks, but will drip now and again before the block heats up. sometimes the coolant will run off the back of the motor or puddle up in one of the spark plig castings.

check the water pipe o-ring where the lower radiator hose connects. if it leaks there it drips elsewhere on the bottom. you can pop the water pipe off by removing the 12mm bolt where the ground wire is. real easy to fix if that's the problem.:headbang:

I had my original ('86) thermostat replaced recently, just because I thought it was time to) and discovered that the old one was cracked and leaking coolant. Just some more input for ya'.

I have this exact same problem

mine is random

sometimes it leaks hardcore, other times not at all
