November 22, 200817 yr went to order new front axles for my 97 awd a/t 2.2 motor, legacy, and for my 95 legacy awd 2.2 a/t both wagons, my question is are the front axles both the same from 95 to 97? according to carquest they are different , i was thinking they were the same , thanks,
November 22, 200817 yr i'm pretty sure they are the same. i've swapped them before. there is a difference between FWD and AWD, but they both will fit. i think the FWD axle has a thicker shaft. if the manufacturer used a different part number due to some slight modification the parts house may not know they are the same. check out the new parts site for cross reference. http://opposedforces.com/parts/
November 22, 200817 yr I would forget about Carqwest for replacement axles or any aftermarket one from what I have heard. They just don't hold up as the story goes. When I replaced them on my Outback I got them from MW Enterprises. They are the way to go other than the dealer. Jim
November 22, 200817 yr Author yes on mw no place local sells them , life time warranty , new , no core charge, thats what i was thinking 95 awd and 97 awd are the same,
November 23, 200817 yr I'd bet they are the same. I used 97 lego fronts in a 99 imp front both AT awd no issues. MWE is THE way to go. Got 2 new CV's front axles from MWE for my MT OBW 6k later no problems. You can't go wrong.
December 1, 200817 yr all legacy axles are the same or interchangeable for more than a decade after inception. manual/auto/engine size doesn't matter. MWE can't be found locally, you order them. after market axles are complete junk. don't be surprised if you're asking axle questions again in the next year. personally i'd take them back and put the extra effort into calling and ordering from MWE. it actually saves time to order them. i like having parts on my front porch when i get home. 4 minute phone call, no driving, no waiting in line, done.
