Headlight dilema.

Quad headlights

 

Low beams work great, then when high beams are turned on, passenger side low beam goes out

 

any suggestions?

low uses outer bulbs on low wattage

high use outer on high wattage, plus the inners.

your low beam high portion is out. replace the light.

if that doesn't fix it, and it should, replace the two headlight relays. They're under the dash above the pedals. They look like this. $13.00 at autozone.

 

But replace them with this, $8.00 and 30 amp to boot. Pilot PLRY1.

Yup -- these quad systems aren't a low beam and a high beam light -- it's a combo lo/hi light, and a hi only light. Took me a while to figure that out too....

hijack but related...i did the Hella conversions for all 4 lights on my brat. 2 times now, sometimes i cannot go back to just low beam, like the switch isnt working on the low. hibeam switch off, and the "beam" indicator still lit and all 4 lights are on. I had to disconnect the high lamps on my last drive. Do i need a relay, is my switch getting fried, or do i have a lamp grounded out somewhere? sometimes it works fine, but then gets stuck on high...

I'm not sure if this is your problem or not but I have seen quite a few of the actual switches go bad on these style cars...EA81. But it could ba any of the things you listed.
