December 7, 200817 yr on a 90 legacy. what would cause a delay in drive. when shifted it takes a minute and some reving of the engine to get it to move, but after that it drives fine. fluid is full, not sure about the filter. it has about 170,000 miles on it.
December 7, 200817 yr don't worry about the filter, it doesn't have one. the "filter" is just a strainer, a mesh screen that hardly does anything and doesn't need replaced. as for your issues sounds like your trans is aging. some fluid concoctions have had good results, you can search here for info on those and some decent feedback on solving this exact issue. 99 models typically have this delay in engagement issue for some reason and many of those folks have mitigated the issue with additives.
December 7, 200817 yr Check this post: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=87708 Maybe it's worth a shot. Does yours make any unusual noise when accelerating? Mine did and had the delay...I tried a Lucas additive (didn't know about the above), but didn't help, so I swapped it out for another used one. Good luck. Good luck.
