December 8, 200817 yr OK, the 2.2L Legacy '98 has no distributor... question, what else do I replace aside from plugs and wires?
December 8, 200817 yr nothing. PCV (use subaru only on this), air filter and fuel filter aren't a bad idea depending on miles.

December 10, 200817 yr Author OK. So ignition coil is not a part that should be regularly replaced? I get some rough miss between 2-3 speeds, but it idles well and runs well at full throttle. I am doing all of the above, but should I also look at the coil, at least visually?
December 10, 200817 yr You could, as it never hurts, but odds are its fine. Sometimes they get hairline cracks in the coil towers, but replace only one thing at a time. DO a full tuneup first. nipper
December 10, 200817 yr Yeah, tune up first. All cheap parts that could probably use changing anyway. When I purchased my 96 2.2 outback, it had a miss during acceleration too. I pulled the plugs which looked about as perfect as a plug can look except for having a gap of about a 1/2 inch. Put new ones is and the miss was gone. I didn't have a CEL though so you should definitely check that out. Good Luck!
