Wirebrush
I'm going to retrieve a dead Brat. Can I tow it with several hundred miles with a tow bar without damaging anything if I have the trans and/or transfer "case" in neutral? If I have to rent a trailer or dolly it may not be worth it, but I can build a tow bar for very little. Thanks, Mike.
The Scooby
pull the back half of the drive line, or both rear axels.
TheSubaruJunkie
EA81's should only have a single piece driveline. If you remove it you will lose all your gear oil from the tranny. With the Tranny in neutral, you should be fine. I believe it is only Automatics you will have problems flat towing.

Frank B
Your not going to hurt anything at all with a manual tranny, just put it in neutral. You'll add some miles to the car, unless you disconnect the speedo cable. A manual tranny will still get it's lubrication because the gears are submerged in oil, an automatic only gets oil when the engine is turning the main shaft which drives the pump, they need the driveshaft removed. I've towed several manual cars and trucks without removing anything and they were fine.
