February 11, 200917 yr The Haynes manual says I need to pull the starter off of my EA82T before pulling the engine. Is that correct? I thought since the starter is bolted to the trans, and not contacting the flywheel when not in the process of starting, I could just leave it on there. Do I really need to pull it? Thanks! Richard
February 11, 200917 yr IIRC one of the bolts goes all the way through and that one needs to come out. The other one, I think is a stud, and the starter can stay conected to the bellhousing on that side. Later, Tim

Not htat it wouldn't help, I'm just saying in well over a hundred Subaru Motor pulls I've never needed to remove one. If you are dropping a transmission through thte bottom then it DOES definately have to come out. Pulling engine, it can stay
