Impreza and legacy exhaust

Featured Replies

Hello, I was wondering if a cat back system from a 2000 Impreza would fit my 1998 Legacy Outback. I searched but to no avail.

Thanks, Justin.

Prolly not. The cars are two separate platforms, and not the same car length. Individual components like a cat converter or a muffler could be the same, but that is about it.

Impreza and Legacy are on the same platform. Same track, Same suspension crossmembers and all. They are virtually the same car, just a hair shorter and with fewer options(drum rear brakes)

But the Imp is a few inches shorter wheelbase, so that would be where you may run into an issue. I am sure it would be close, and might work.

If anything a muffler shop could extend the midpipe by 3 or 4 inches pretty cheaply.

Correct. I ran into the same problem when I tried to install a 04 STi catback on my 91 Legacy. You would have to lengthen the pipe by about 4 inches and rotate the flange. I believe this is the same case I am about to run into on my '00 RS.
