January 18, 200422 yr I am usually on the older site, but my question is about my EJ 1.8l. Can I turbo charge it? I have the turbos and all of the plumbing. My concern is that the compression will not be trubo compatible. On the otherhand, When I turbo charged the Justy, the book put it at a 9:1 ratio as I recall, and it loved the turbo, at about 6 to 7 lbs. Not afraid to do the work, just don't want to kill the engine. Troy
January 18, 200422 yr not being turbo compatible really means that it won't take high boost applications without internals. That being said, my friend has 11psi on his stock ej25, stock internals but it has been painstakingly tuned properly, and it has been running as a race/daily driver for 2 years with this set-up. The ej18 is the same, proper tuning allows for higher boost but for an average set-up 4-5 psi is the most i'd try.
January 18, 200422 yr Author Thanks! I want to be conservative at first, and then move on to more racey tuning and boost levels. Even still I will be staying about 7lbs max. Troy
January 19, 200422 yr Im also interested in turbo'ing an NA engine, but the ej22 in my 96 liberty. Would i be better off buying a legacy GT front cut?
January 19, 200422 yr I assume your chassis is a none turbo? There is electric wiring to dash that's strickly for the turbo indicator. The CV shafts are different for a pre 90 model. I advise you to talk to a tech that could add to my basic comments. I have rebuilt several of both types in the past. Another idea you can get a turbo engine with +- 30K miles from dealer that import them by the transpertainer full. IMHO you would better off to buy a basket case and put one of those low mileage engine in. Good luck!
