My '84 Vanagon/Subaru hybrid

Featured Replies

Here's some photos of my '84 Vanagon with a Subaru Legacy 2.2 motor swap. Four speed manual, 16'' Mercedes AMG wheels, lowered 3'' on H&R springs and KYB shocks.

nice shagwaggon.

whats the motorcycle with sidecar, that looks sweet too.

I see you took the pictures the other day before the leaves had fallen.

jk. anyhow, what the shagwagon get for mileage, and did you do the swap.

Yeah, I just grabbed a bunch of old photos. That old sidecar bike is my dad's Ural. Personally I own a '75 Kawasaki H1 500 triple, but that's a story for another day.

As for gas mileage, I'll never know because the odometer is broken.

Unfortunately I did not do the swap, the previous owner did. I purchased it as my first car a few years ago. Since then, I've become a student mechanic and will eventually know how to do that sort of thing. I'm planning on being a service technician at a Subaru dealer in a few years and, perhaps, eventually opening my own little shop somewhere.

Since I owned the van, I've done the following myself:

New power steering rack

Complete new rear brakes and wheel bearings

Regular maintenance, oil changes, etc

That's a sweet Vanagon. I wanted to do that swap so bad when my old Wasserboxer ate itself up from the inside out....but had to cut my losses and run at the time. I have considered doing this to my old '68 Bus, but haven't gotten brave enough yet.

Take care,

JEsse
