April 5, 200917 yr i've heard rumors of a way to trick your at ecu into thinking its just dandy as a mt. if someone could elaborate a little bit on this that would be fantastic. this particular ecu is out of a 90 legacy.
April 5, 200917 yr might want to explain exactly what you're trying to do. i've interchanged auto/manual ECU's before but i'm not sure how to answer without knowing what you're doing and that's going to make a difference.
April 5, 200917 yr Author i am in the process of swapping my legacy into my frankenstien brat, but the legacy is AT so i aqcuired a transmission and all that jazz from another legacy. so i would like to convince my AT ecu that its happy about the MT attached to it.
April 5, 200917 yr I do beleive its going to be simpler to go back to the "donor" legacy, and get that MT ECU..
April 6, 200917 yr For some reason I keep getting auto donors... I've never had too many issues... My ol' Rx would stall a few times right after you reset the ECU, but the XT has had no troubles what so ever...
April 10, 200916 yr On the EA series ECUs there is a wire coming out of the ECU that is either grounded, or left floating to indicate Auto or Manual. I'd imagine there would be something similar on the EJ ECUs as well. Time to study an EJ wiring diagram and see if you see something like that. -Dave
April 10, 200916 yr the ECUs are identical. there's a couple wires that need to be swapped around to tell it that it's connected to a 5MT. no big deal. I've put almost 40k miles on my EJ22 Loyale since the swap, donor was a FWD 4EAT, now attached to a FT4WD 5MT.
April 10, 200916 yr There is an AT/MT identifier pin on the first gen legacies. Depending on the ECU, you either ground this pin or leave it empty to let the ECU know what type of transmission it's connected to. What year and model Legacy are you using for your donor swap?
April 25, 200916 yr Author im using the engine out of a 90 legacy ls..fwd 4eat, and the transmission out of a different 90 legacy.
April 27, 200916 yr What year/model are you swapping all these parts into? Another Legacy? If it is a 90-91 Legacy that was an AT, you'll want to cut the AT/MT identifier pin wire to trick the ECU into thinking it's a MT. I've got more info on my write-up page. http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/swap/electrical.html#ecu
