Help! My Brat won't let me in or out!

Featured Replies

Hey All! Tonight, I went to air out my Brat. I unlocked the drivers door, and opened all the windows and fun tops. After goofing around with other stuff in the garage, I went to open my drivers door. I lifted the handle, and nothing happened. I reached inside, and pulled on the inner door handle, and still nothing. When I use each handle, I can hear something moving inside by the latch! I have gotten inside, via the passenger side, and tried to open it by pulling on the handle and giving the door a good shove, and that didn't do it either. Does anyone have any tips or ideas to try? Thanks, Kurt

you're gonna have to try and take off the inside door panels and plastic. roll up the window, and either hook back up the linkage, or try and move it to unlock...

the linkage inside will have a bar with a bent end, and it inserts into a small plastic fitting that is pushed through a hole in the other side of the linkage... sounds like it popped out....

In addition to Mcbrat I would shoot as much graphite as possible towards

the back of the door.

That's where the latch linkage is.

That linkage can get pretty rusty.

Also, on mine, the latch activation lever can get stuck in the "almost

released" position.

You might have to push that down and then shoot graphite on that thing

until it get slick enough to slide down by its self.

Also the locking system pushes the lock bar out of the way of the latch

activation lever so that the door cannot be unlocked.

Sometimes the lock bar gets stuck too far up for the key to be able to push

it back into position.

I had the same problem and ended up just reaching in and pushing things around until I could get the lock bar back into relative position.

It now works but every other week I have to shoot a ton of graphite on it.

If you can't unlock the door it sounds like you may have the same problem.

Its a bit of a pain to get to with just a bare hand, so a few pairs of needle

nose pliers may make it easier.

Hope it helps
