April 9, 200916 yr Hi, this is my first post. I recently got a '92 five speed 4WD loyale and have been giving it the work over. It's running like a dream and I love it, however the instrument cluster lights are not working. The stereo has been ripped out of the dashboard and the clock will come on and off, sometimes really bright, sometimes dim, sometimes not working at all. I would apprieciate any suggestions or help with these problems. The rear wiper isn't working either . . . Edited April 9, 200916 yr by koovle
April 9, 200916 yr Welcome to the forum. I assume you have checked all the fuses under the dash already. I would check to see if the dimmer control is getting voltage next.
April 9, 200916 yr RE: Clock problems: Those clocks often have a cold solder joint on the circuit board that causes problems like that. You can usually repair it easily with a solder gun. It's by a resister that gets really hot, not hard to find.
April 9, 200916 yr Does you heat defrost fan work on all 4 speeds by any chance. these are very common problems on all ea82 Subaru's
April 9, 200916 yr Author Uh, the heater works in all the fan speeds and positions, the rear defrost works as well . . . should I remove the instrument panel or is there a work around?
April 10, 200916 yr take a look at the dimmer swithc. there are 2 cases that i can account for where the dimmer switch burned out
April 10, 200916 yr take a look at the dimmer swithc. there are 2 cases that i can account for where the dimmer switch burned out +1 on that. Dimmer switch is ussually the culprit if they ALL go out.
April 10, 200916 yr ...the instrument cluster lights are not working. ... Have you Checked if one of the Headlamps is Dim too? ... if So, your Subie Must have a Bad Relay. One of the Two Headlamps` Relays Control the Dashboard Lights Too, the other Relay Controls the Blue "High Beams" Light at the Dash too.
April 10, 200916 yr Have you Checked if one of the Headlamps is Dim too? ... if So, your Subie Must have a Bad Relay. One of the Two Headlamps` Relays Control the Dashboard Lights Too, the other Relay Controls the Blue "High Beams" Light at the Dash too. A blown fuse will cause the dim headlight as well. but the relay IS a very good place to check. My money is still on the dimmer switch.
