just got an '88 XT and changed it from a 2wd automatic into a 4wd 5sp transmission and now just need to figure out the wiring.. she runs and drives if i run a hot lead to the starter.. wont start with original wiring..

 

i would like to change it to a 5 lug and want to know all the details on how to do that as well!!

You need to put a jumper in, or cut/splice, the wires to the Neutral Safety Switch, which was located on the auto's shifter. The NSS kept the starter from working unless shifter was in Park or Neutral.

 

I can't tell you the wire colors though....
