Fuel Pump extra loud

Featured Replies

My EA82T's fuel pump is very loud now.

It also stays on when the key is at ACC (before starting, an after shutdown).

Engine runs fine.

I replaced the fuel filter, same symptoms. Old one had some restriction using the blow-thru test.

Is my pump going to die soon?

Is my relay the more likely culprit?

Well the pump could be a dying, but a while back my '89 SPFI fuel pump started making noise. All that I did was remove the pump from the bracket to see if it was clogged. I ended up snapping two of the bolts btw, had to drill them out and retap.

Anyway I reinstalled it with new hardware and the noise was gone, ran fine. Go figure.

I'de pull the pump and check the screen, as noted above. A pump noise can also be caused by the vibration from the pump being loose or one of the lines being loose. Crawl under there and check it while its running. The continous run problem could be the relay is stuck, check with a volt meter. Also make sure your test connectors are not plugged together too.

Turn out I had the switch on for the rear wiper motor :drunk:

No wiper arm connected, so I never noticed.
