Port and Polish?

Chasing oil leaks on my second EA82 engine has me thinking I may go get my original one back and put it on the stand as a 'spare'. At least that one didn't leak  anyone coined the term grEAsy82 yet?

I am heading for an EJ conversion, the 'second' engine is supposed to be my low cost 'interim' engine so I can drive until the day I have something EJ to go in

money and time spent on the grEAsy82's detracts me from the goal, mmmm k

that being said, has anyone done a serious head massage on the EA82 TBI heads? was there ANY gain in power or delivery to be had?

part of me wants to take my time cleaning up my old engine, essentially an overhaul, kind of a labor of love thing - part of me says that's dumb if you're just going to change it out in the next 12 months

but then, none of this is really rational to begin with so what difference does it make what I do

your thoughts?

Yes.

Yes.

It's expensive tho.

How far did they go and what did it accomplish?

How far did they go and what did it accomplish?

I haven't got that far yet. I have an ad here for a Gen 1 single port NOS head.

I'd like to take 4 heads to Fowler in Ohio here and have them put on the flowbench.

I've ported one junk head. Pocket port, cut the valve guides a bit. Mostly concentrated on the area of the valve seat. Polished valves, backcut with seats narrowed.

A picture worth a thousand words, I know. I'll have to look. I scrapped that head.

I'll say this: Next ones, I want machined in a lot of areas. Then clean it up. Port and polish. I'm pretty sure the most bang for the buck is going to be what happens around the valve and seats.

If you want port and polish done I can help you out there. No matter what engine you decide to go with.(I would try and persuade you to go with the ej) and then port those heads.

cool, thanks guys, seems to me there should be some 'old school' hot rodding work that would help me out

the debate I'm having is a silly one, the EJ22 is the easy choice... but I kind of want something a little over the top

as far as the ea82 n/a 1.8, after so many 100's of thousands of miles of service in more than one car I'm just curious about what would make it mo' better

the solution is to have more than one car, ha ha
