shaking and vibration problem

Featured Replies

hi all i own a 1987 gl wagon 4wd. two yrs now!

about 15 times now , at speeds of 80kms to 110kms the car starts to shake and vibrate like crazy. letting the gas off and then continuing has fixed the problem. the last couple of times it happened the shaking continued even after let gas off and as well as slowing down and pull over to side of road.never does this at lower speeds yet! the best way i can descride the shaking is like a belt in tire seperating or bent rim but of course i have checked all tires and rims out , not the problem.

any suggestions of what i can check would be appreciated.

thank you all

do you feel the shake in your steering wheel or your seat?

feel shaking in every thing ,shift stick(auto),seat steering car body the whole car starts to shake

tires out of balance

bent rims

Snow in wheel wells

bubble in one of your tires

Tire that isnt the same size as the rest

all of this will make your car bounce

Also a blown strut/shock will do it also

Checked your lugs lately?

The fact that it doesn't do it all the time makes me think its not a tire deal.

I'd be inclined to look to the steering & suspension.

Do you have the means to jack the front end and check for play?

I'd jack the front completely off the ground and see if you can get something to move. A quarter of an movment would be too much play in any of those parts.

I was rejected on a state inspection because I had a quarter inch play in one of my rods---but the inspector was prying on my car with a 3 foot pry bar and got something to move a quarter inch when he failed my car.

82 Hatch, almost wired....

01 Forester, bent but not broken!
