EJ22 donor engine line identification help :)

Featured Replies

These 2 lines on the passenger side near the front of the engine (to the right of the power steering pump bracket) are different than on my dead EJ25. I have googled EJ22's and looked around some, but I figured you guys could tell me faster what I'm looking at:

Thanks!

Charcoal canister lines.

Does your EJ25 have lines there at all (some don't) or they are different?

A pic of your EJ25 might help or a good description of what is there.

You could also search for charcoal canister here and find some good info on them.

Cool. Thanks. My EJ25 Phase 1 doesn't have them there. If they are somewhere else I am not sure. Now I know what to search for! Thanks a ton!

Okay, yeah some of them don't have the lines there, they are in the back.

So you shouldn't need those, just cap them off or run them together and it should be fine. Or if you want to be "perfect" about it, get an EJ22 intake manifold without those....if they're available, I can't recall if that's an EJ25 specific trait or not (having it both ways).

When this usually happens you often need to mess with the vacuum line plumbing around the EGR, Throttle Body, and above the intake for cylinder#3 where they are tied into the intake.

What year car are you working on? I'm guessing atleast a 97 but for sure 98 & 99's don't have the canister up front. I do enough that I get confused.

Might be helpful to other folks trying to help you out knowing what year the car is and the 2.2 going in.

On newer model years, the canister is in the back for both 2.2 and 2.5.

With canister in the rear, there are more possible evaporatiive emissions

trouble codes (P044x) enabled than with the old type.

But apparently, there is a way to make everything work.

Sorry. I have like 3 threads going on here at the same time, because it seems questions get answered faster when the question is in the title of the thread :)

I had been just adding on to my original thread and asking questions as I went along, but ended up mostly talking to myself. hehe...

Anyway, I'm doing a EJ22 swap into my 98 OBW. Some of the details and links to pics etc are in this thread:

I guess the easiest way for people to find answers to specific questions is to make a thread for each question. I thought that would clutter the board, but it seems a generic thread title is the "kiss of death" when you are looking for help.

I'm on my way to the shop now to replace the oil separator plate on the EJ22 donor motor and finish seating the rear main seal and whatever else I have time for... I'm hoping to have the donor motor dropped in by the weekend.
