I have an 86 GL 4x4 wagon with the carbed 1.8. Bought an 87 DL 2 wheel wagon (yet to pick it up) with the 1.8 SPFI and auto tranny. I am keeping the 5 speed manual in the GL and plan to swap the SPFI in from the DL. Will this 87 1.8 SPFI with auto bolt right up to the 5 speed manual in the 86 GL?

Yes - just swap the flywheel from the engine you are taking out to the engine you are putting in.

are you converting to the whole spfi, which will require swapping the engine harness?

 

otherwise the spfi motor bolts in the same. you can put the carb intake on the spfi motor and go from 8.5 compression to 9.5 compression. you may have to block off some egr passages, though

Thanks guys, for the info. Yes, whole SPFI setup. I printed out the swap documentation, thanks for the heads up. It is a 77,000 mile car with new timing belts, manifold gaskets and tune up. The front left was then introduced to a concrete wall. So I am buying to swap it all over to my GL. I got the quad headlight swap items from Edrach coming so I should be in pretty good shape. Maybe look at an SJR lift.
