ej22 99 heads on a 92

Featured Replies

i think you can but , will the heads from a 99 ej22 bolt on to a 92 block?

would that make it an interference engine?, i don't think so, right?

the 99 doesn't run, i figure timing belt and bent valves, the 92 i can get for a good price. i was just wondering about swapping the heads over and getting a non-interference engine with egr. make sense or too much work just to avoid a cel?

thanks,

john

I believe you'll need to drill and tap the block for that metal tube that I believe ties into the EGR system thats about a foot long IIR. That would be a bit of a pain.

Unless you don't need the EGR stuff.

John - yes, I think the heads should bolt on. Good idea to double check though since the 99's are quite different.

You probably know this, but the intake manifolds and cams are different between 1991-1998 and 1999 stuff.

So retain the 99 intake and cams, which is easy since you want it back in the 99 anyway.

They'll bolt on, however there are differences.

The 90-94 legacies did not have EGR.

Also, the phase 2 ej22 had a different shape piston dish & head, so just sticking the 99 heads on the 92 block will alter the compression ratio.

I don't recall off the top of my head whether it will cause it to be higher or lower, but it'll change the CR.
