I stripped a hub... FTWORTH TX HELP

Featured Replies

I never thought that a hub could be stripped on one of these cars but I succeeded. I wasn't being stupid either, It started creaking, I made a turn and it just started grinding. I popped off the center cap and the axle is just spinning in the hub when I let out the clutch. I don't have a 36mm socket and I have no money. I limped it home in 4wd. If there is anyone in the area that has a 36mm socket I can use, a friend of mine has a hub/axle that I am buying for my last $20. I am screwed as this is my only car on the road. Will it hurt the tranny to put-put around town in 4wd with the hub like this?

You maybe able to purchase a 36mm socket from Napa or Autozone and then return it when you are done, provided you dont get it covered in grease and grime.

I have one, but im kinda far away. To get you buy, you can limp that thing in 4WD all day everyday, at 60mph if you wanted to. To get to work and back, it wont do any harm at all.

I stripped a hub in california and drove it 600 miles home so I could change it. Yes. You can run it around in 4wd with a stripped hub. No problems. Wouldn't recommend it long term, but it'll DEFINITELY get you by.

Don't feel bad, I just found out I have a stripped hub as well (and a bad axle, go figure). If you are running it stripped keep an eye on the axle nut, if you neglect it too long it will strip out the nut and fall off.

I ripped it apart tonight. The axle is great, so its a 10 dollar fix for me. My only question is, Are the front hubs on EA81 and EA82 the same? the wagon I am snarching it off is an 85-86, mine is an 88...

Not the same, but interchangable.

Besides, if the donor is an 85, and you got an 88....they should both be EA82
