90 legacy hard starting

Featured Replies

i just noticed yesterday that when the car has been ran and sets for a little bit it is somtimes takes a while to get it to restart. it took about 15-20 seconds of cranking to get it to start but after that it runs fine. when it's cold theirs no problem. my girlfriend is the one who usually drives it so i asked her about it and she said it's done it a few times for her also but she never told me about it because she thought i allready knew about it.

i had another legacy with the same problem only it would do it when the car was cold and only on hot days. i never did figure that one out.

Might be a fuel injector bleeding down and flooding the engine. Pull the injectors out of the intake manifold (still attached to the rail) and turn the key to ON. When the fuel system primes if one is leaking it will drip/spray gas out. Sometimes that can be cured with a good strong fuel system cleaner.

does any one remember the thread a good while ago with a similar problem, he found if he dumped a cup of water on the engine, temp sensor? maybe, he could start the car right away. he got so good at it he showed his wife how to do it until he replaced the sensor.

could this be the same?

Perhaps a new engine coolant temperature sensor?

That makes sense. And I looked at mine today I don't think you can remove the fuel rails without bending the hard line that goes under the intake manifold, so that's a no go. :-\

Were you thinking of http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=63680 ?

In that particular case, it was the crank sensor that responded to dousing.
