So I'm new to the whole forum thing but I've been driving and building my na 95 legacy legacy with a ej22. I recently blew a head gasket and it led to a rod knock, so I've been trying to do research to do a swap for a ej22t but I can't find anything specific to what I was wanting to do but I have no idea if it's even possible yet.

That Beeing said, what I'm wanting to know is if I can put a ej22t into my legacy and set the turbo up on stand alone so I do not have to change the ecu and not have to deal with to much wiring. And if so will my ecu run the motor also?

Having been on this forum a number of years, there has been a number of posts inquiring about an ej22 swap to install an ej22t. From what I remember, the problem is the wiring harness. It would take an extrodinary amount of work beyond reasonableness to get it to work. Also, ecu would need to be changed. It would be far better, and less costly to simply buy a car with the ej22t.

Complete wiring harness, ECU, different cross member, different exhaust, and probably a couple of other things I'm not remembering at the moment.  The EJ22 turbos are getting real hard to come by too.  We haven't even had one in our shop to build for at least 4 years.

Hi,

Welcome to the site.

You could just drop the EJ22T into your '95 w/the '95's Intake Manifold and drive it...if it's a 5-speed. Autos require the EGR fix I've posted on here. Or throw the '95 EJ22e heads on the EJ22T block...but that's  a waste IMHO.

Plenty of info on 'how to turbo an NA (non-aspirated / non-turbo)' subaru online. Here's ONE LINK to get you started, albeit they use an NA block.

You CAN RUN this w/a LOW boost setup - about 5psi - which is the Wastegate pressure on the EJ22T VF11 stock turbo - 'as is'. It's not recommended, but it'll work. If you can actually FIND the rare EJ22T, it's already setup to run as a turbo so you're risk is lower than running an NA engine, as the EJ22T is 8:1 Compression ratio vs. the ~9.5:1 of the non-turbo.

And no offense, but any 'stand alone' is a LOT of wiring....if you've never done it, it's not a 'first-timers' best option.

Expect to $pend twice your budget and your time to complete this project.

GL,

Td
