99 Subaru Forester Transmission Question

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

We have a 99 Forester with the manual 5sp that appears to be going out. Transmission code on the car is TY755VC1AA and it has the Engine Code of EJ253AWZVB (2.5SOHC right?) Question I have is will a 2004 Forester 2.5 xs Transmission (and rear end) swap into the car??? Very confusing here and need expert help ASAP.

Thanks,

Steve

Yep, I usually find it way less money and faster to swap in a used trans.  Yes it is in unknown condition but most yards have 30 day or longer exchange.

While the trans is out:

Seal the rear engine breather plate

Surface the flywheel.

New clutch kit

Check or change the clutch fork.

Gee.... 8 ish hours to change trans and diff. Or 6 for just trans. Or not take out the trans just swap the center diff which takes like 1 hour. Also used probably isn't much better. Those center diffs fail on the regular. Dealer stocks more than one at all times.

At least - if you are paying for labor it doesn't pencil out. We most often fix them because used is such a gamble.
