Based on the current cost of Subarus, it already exists as its highline name, and they should be looking for a lowline name like Scion is to Toyota - Call it "VolksKang" which means - the People's Roo.

According to Toyota the "Scion" moniker indicates that the brand was meant to foster loyalty to Toyota products in the next generation of car buyers. Basically, they are aiming at the 17-26 year old marketplace. So FHI may want to likewise go for a name suggesting youth, passing on to the next generation, growing up, etc. Just as names like Acura, Infiniti, etc. project precision and durability to more established buyers.

 

OTOH, in fact, most Scion buyers are 30-50 year olds in need of a cheap commuter so this marketing perspective might just be bunk.

And mabe they could start selling affordable cars again, like ones under

$20K. Nice reliable high power AWD cars, without the yearly styling changes and woodgrained chrome trim BS.

 

I agree about the Woodtrim Stuff, makes me think of cheap suits and 80's Era TV's. I had a VW Baja Bug once with a Wood Dash- it had class, but then again it was actually wood. Maybe they could come out with a 4WD Car again. That would be nice. I had a name earlier, but another name would be "Unidad" Spanish for Unity.

While yes, Subaru has been making inroads into the higher end market in recent years (and there is NO reason for them to stop), it is important to keep in mind that they continue to make relatively inexpensive cars to this day. A new Impreza without all the turbo and woodgrain "BS" can be bough for a reasonable price under 18K. My brand new Forester X cost me less than 18K when I bought it last July (no woodgrain or chrome BS). While 18k is not cheap, you do get a bullet proof car with AWDas well as a min. of 165hp, and considering the fact that a stripped down Hyundai will cost you around 12K, the premium paid on Subarus is not that great keeping in mind all the car you get.

While a 30k+ Outback Limited XT with all the bells and whistles is clearly not cheap, this is not the only model and trim level that Subaru offers - shop around a little - there are good prices to be had on these cars if you forego the woodgrain and chrome BS. Just because the company makes some more expensive options, does not mean that you can't get a great car at a reasonable price.

My suggestion for the high end line - "Subarnice" (okay that sucks, but whatever).

Not if I designed it. It might be an available option for backwards people. Just kidding- the Greek Word is simply the actual meaning of Subaru predating any any Latin or Germanic Lanuguages by a few thousand years.

I don't know about anyone else, but I find even $12K hard to swallow. The price of vehicles is grossly inflated. Blue, are you sure you aren't a Subbie sales rep?? You sound like one of those guys who says to only use the highly overpriced OEM parts. LOL Just kidding!!

I think they have that line already. Ya just buy one thats about 6-8 years old and fix it up nice. Skip all the interest, car payments, etc if you do it on a good budget.

 

wow, you get the prize. i couldn't agree more.

 

One of the most dissapointing things is that i know that eventually i'm going to have to get a new car. i would really love to get a new subaru, infortunatly, i won't have the cash by the time i'll need a new car, so i'd look in the market of used subies.

 

now, no offense to anyone, but i'm a legacy man myself. i HATE....let me reiterate....HATE the 2000-2004 models. I think they're way to grandma and grandpa. no wonder they lost a big group of the younger crowd.

 

this being said, by the time i'll be getting a "new to you" subaru i'll HAVE to get an ugly legacy, just to make the wife happy (in not getting a really old car).

 

*grumble grumble* i hate this whole "time" thing. :banghead:
