MaroonDuneDoom Posted November 26, 2003 Share Posted November 26, 2003 i had an EXTREME overheat, above the max on the guage, and was wondering what kind of damage could have been done. i know these little alluminum engines can't take she-aight for heat. what should i look at? I'll bet money you gonna blow a head gasket, or you did and that is why you blew it. they just don't get that hot for no reason. We've also melted a channel in the block instead of blowing the head gasket where they always blow. GeneralDisorder Posted November 26, 2003 Share Posted November 26, 2003 This the same mechanic friend that said you can't lift a soob? Your engine is running yes? Then it's salvageable most likely. Probably blew a headgasket or cracked a head is all. You would have to get one insanely hot to actually hurt the block. The melting point of aluminium BTW, is 1220.58 degrees. If your cooling system was working even a little bit, you could not possibly reach that temp I don't think. Of course if the engine were run without any cooling system at all - possibly.
