What will heat do to an engine?

Recommended Posts

if you get it that hot. I'll bet money you gonna blow a head gasket, or you did and that is why you blew it.

they just don't get that hot for no reason.

We've also melted a channel in the block instead of blowing the head gasket where they always blow.

I seriously couldn't believe it. but there was like a 1/8 deep groove from the water jacket on #3 to the combustion chamber.

This the same mechanic friend that said you can't lift a soob?

Your engine is running yes? Then it's salvageable most likely. Probably blew a headgasket or cracked a head is all. You would have to get one insanely hot to actually hurt the block.

The melting point of aluminium BTW, is 1220.58 degrees. If your cooling system was working even a little bit, you could not possibly reach that temp I don't think. Of course if the engine were run without any cooling system at all - possibly. But the thing would seize before it melted I think.
