Block heater install.
I picked up a block heater for my "new" 2007 Forrester. I haven't put it in yet, it's too cold out lol! Question: From the top looking down it looks like I may have to drop the exhaust manifold a tiny bit. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Ryan

I don't fully understand my rear diff, 2007 Forrester
Ok so i got the car yesterday and am slowly giving it a solid tune-up. So far I've done engine oil, ATF + spin filter, air filter, sparkers, new coolant and front gear lube oil. So now the problem: I have a rear VLSD but im afraid to change the oil. It's a visco type deal but regular old 75w-90 doesn't gel with temp like the book theory eludes to. There must be a special visco additive but the dealer thinks I'm nuts. What gives. 2007 Forrester LL Bean 38,000 miles

Change water pump w/timing belt?
Dickensheets replied to jason53818's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's generally considered money well spent. I don't know your mileage but ALL that labor is expensive to expose the t-belt. If the pump goes next month it must be repeated. Most of us do both. Me included. Secondly, if you are handy, say on a scale of 6 of 10, then you CAN do this yourself. I believe you have the SOHC (the easier one). Haynes manual $20. Not payin $600, priceless. Ryan

I got a new soob!! ATF question and rear diff
Really?! Yikes. When did that change? I run Dex 3 in my 97 wagon. cars101.c0m says I do have LSD in the rear. Do I need a special gear lube or friction additive for that? Ryan

I got a new soob!! ATF question and rear diff
Hi all. Got an 07 Forrester LL Bean normially aspirated. Towing package and leather. 38,000 miles. Traded the 99 Grand Cherokee (piece of shat). Book says only use Subaru ATF. What are the alternatives? Book says I "may" have a LSD in the rear. How do I know? And if I do what lube for that thing? Maintenance/beer day is coming, want to be all set. Ryan

Having trouble getting Cam Sprockets off...
Dickensheets replied to Battlewagon's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou cant machine/clean the head with it in there. Or I should say its difficult to do a good job without complete disassembly.

Funny you would mention that. I'm a pilot and there were 300 cancelled flights today at DIA. We made in in ok from Cleveland. We were supposed to go to Gunnison next but I got to come home early. Thank God. I would'nt want to do that drive at night. Thanks for all the tips guys.

Lots of ice and snow today in Denver - now my abs light is on
I was spinning out trying to reach my garage so i pulled a little "ebrake". I eventually made it but now my ABS light is on. It must not have liked the poor man's locker trick. Can I clear this by pulling a fuse or yankin the neg battery terminal? I saw dozens of of wrecks today! I even did a 360 on the freeway when the 4runner I was following went sideways and blocked my lane. Nasty stuff. My old tires didn't help any.

EJ-25 head bolts torque
Dickensheets replied to schlite60's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou dont need the adapter. Just eyeball it. If you dont trust your eye then mark points with a sharpie. Works good.

Tire Suggestion - 205/70R15
Dickensheets replied to howards11's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI went with 225/60/15 instead. Handles waaaay better but you lose about 1/8" ground clearance.

New gen lifts, lets see em!
Dickensheets replied to Suberstar88's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLove it! Tell us more about the lift blocks: homemade or storebought? What other mods were necessary? Brake lines, steering, etc..... looks mean.

Hard Cold Start
Dickensheets replied to Sundance's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI know i'm wierd but all my vehicles have block heaters. Best $35 you can spend if it gets cold out. Not only is it nice to have effortless starting and instant heat but it's good for the motor plain and simple. Why more folks don't use them is a mystery to me.:-\

Considering Buying a 2002 Outback
Drive it again for 20min. Get on the open road if you can then pull off and park. Listen to it then.

Oil filter question.
Dickensheets replied to lager68's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe quick flow tips are handy but I'm afraid of whacking a stick or old truck tire on the road and it getting opened for me while I'm driving. Paranoid yes. But..... Get an aluminum washer at ACE hardware and crush away for 7cents.

Check engine light - knock sensor - now gone??
So I lied. The code is back. I will visit the "yard" manana. If I don't find one I will spring for a new one I think. thatswhatshwsaid: what does the connector look like. What year is it from?

Preparing to replace timing belt on 2000 Forester
Dickensheets replied to chrisw's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf it were my car: Waterpump for sure. Tensioner as well. Other sprockets - not unless they make noise or have lots of play. Seals - only if they show signs of seapage.
