  1. Up here in wisconsin the dnr and the governor proposed adding ferrel cats to the small game hunting list As you can imagine cat lovers and PETA went ape************
  2. I pulled a dead mouse out of my heater vent. My heater would make a funny noise and not work very well, but only some of the time then one night I left some left overs in the car, well in the morning I noticed a hole in the styrofoam. well the mouse ended up in the fan with only half a head and I had to tear apart the dash under the passenger side. PS, anyone got a spare shifter boot for a 86 brat they could throw my way mines torn and that is how the mouse got in
  3. A two stage flywheel needs to be turned down on both surfaces equally. if the disk sits inset on the flywheel its a two stage but two stages are probably only on ea81 . the more i think about your problem I wonder if you took the coating off the surface of the pressure plate. the manufacturers put a coating on the contact surface of the pressure plate to keep it from rusting and you are suppose to sand it off with a fine to medium grit sand paper
  4. Ideally you want the clutch to engage or disengage about mid stroke, you might want to consider two thing your pressure plate may be the wrong one or two your flywheel if it is a two stage flywheel may not have been turned correctly. If when you get it apart and it looks glazed or really smooth you will probably need to have it re done.
  5. If it truly was getting 310 and now its getting 160 thats almost 50% but the cold does seem to make a difference. also you might want to look at the valve timing belt or chain it should be replaced every 90,000 miles to maintain maximum fuel economy.
  6. If you live near fresno there is a pic n pull and a pull n save there last year I bought a 5sp d/r for 65$. I think there is one in madera also:burnout:
  7. you really beleive that you get great service because you talk to them and not because your a female?? but you have to give them a break they dont make that much and the fumes from some of those chemicals might affect their service, so just bear with them and eventually theirs a possibility that they get it right:headbang:
  8. sounds like the seals around the valves havnt been broken in yet its letting enough oil in to foul the plugs yet it probably still fires on those cylinders if I were you I would check it again after putting about 500 miles on it.
  9. doe's anyone know how to get new trailing arm bushings for an ea81. there arent any sube dealerships nearby and i was hoping maybe somebody knew of a bushing from a more common car that the parts store might carry the bushing are about 2 1/2 inches on the outside and the hole is 5/8 to 3/4 and about 3/4 inches thick
  10. You might want to consider having your fly wheel turned at a machine shop It only cost me about 20 dollars, Your clutch will 'GRAB' a lot better if it has fresh surface metal to contact to. If you do the job yourself be sure to use loctite on the flywheel and flex plate bolts, it will give you peace of mind and help make sure you only have to open it up once
  11. you might consider putting the stock seals on in addition to the sheilded bearings, Its the sand water and salt that kills the bearings. The grease in between the seal and the bearing can act to suspend any foreign material off the bearing.
  12. My 86 brat cuts out at higher rpms about 4500 in third 3700 in 4th and 3400in 5th the problem seems to be worse when the engine is cold. I think that it is the coil breaking down or it could possibly be a fuel starvation problem like you said. FORWARD!!!
  13. I so much miss the pick and pulls I scored my 5spd d/r turbo tranny in fresno for 65$ and if I knew then what I know now I would have picked up a lsd 3.7, before a I moved last year. up here in the snow belt these cars don't get very old.
  14. Last night I was driving down a mild trail with some slushy snow on it there was only mild slippage but the splines on the axle or the hub or most likely both just stripped out on the passenger side front. I have never heard of this happening before. Iwas thinking that since the axle is probably stripped anyway I might try to drill a hole through the hub and the axle and tap a roll pin in until I can get the axle and hub replaced. If this has ever happened to any one and they have some good advice on how to fix or prevent this problem feel free to let me know
  15. I have recently put a d/r 5spd turbo trans in my 86 brat. it had a d/r 4spd but get this the 5spd is 10 inches shorter than the 4spd was so what i need is to find out what models sport a 55inch rear drive shaft single piece or two piece it doesnt matter
  16. lets say for argument sake that i cant count and it is 25 spline. the turbo axle that i had was a thicker shaft so the inner doj off the turbo would not fit on the old axles. is there a way to change out the outer doj?
  17. got the tranny myself out of a pick a part in california was new to subaru mechanics so i didnt think to pay attention to what t the car was other than hi lo 5speed turbo lesson learned the hard way i guess.
  18. 27 splines counted them several times also the diameter of the turbo axles was thicker so you just cant switch the DOJs. (what does that stand for)
  19. trying to fit a 5 speed into my 86 brat. the 5 speed that i have has 27 splines on the front transaxle. It is also 10 inches shorter than the original 4speed. I know that the tranny came from a turbo car but i am not sure what year. the cv that fits the turbo tranny was to long and the seal ridge? was to big for the brats wheel hub if anyone knows how to id this tranny and the car that it originated from that would be a great help also need to know where to get custom cv made or ordered.
