  1. I would really not recommend you just buy a set of rear struts. They won't match your springs, and you will have different struts front and back. Your car will not handle well at all. Find a whole set of take-offs if you want to put in STi struts (also they'd have to be from an 04).

Also, just putting in the struts won't raise your car. The reason they're lifted is because the GD is heavier, as was mentioned. The springs are what would cause your car to sit higher, as they aren't compressed as far.

  2. The bolt pattern on the strut tops is the same on the front of the WRX, but it's rotated a bit. The rear strut tops are different on the 02+ Imprezas. You'd need strut tower braces from a 93-01 Impreza, I think. That's what I did on my 93 Legacy. I'm not sure how Legacies changed from 94-95, though. I hear the suspension stayed the same. Rear swaybars for sure don't fit because of the bump in the spare tire well. Many places make Legacy-specific swaybars. You can use any spring or strut as long as you use the right upper perches and tops (except 05 STi).

  3. The Outback is based off the Legacy, but has two tone paint, and sits higher due to different suspension and taller tires. 1995 was the first year for the Outback, but it was just a trim level. In 96 it had the different suspension and tires. In 96, the 2.5 was introduced in the GT Legacy, and was apparantly an option for the Outback. According to cars.com, the 2.5 was standard in Outbacks by 97, but I'm not sure if that's right.

The Forester is based off the Impreza, and is a taller wagon. It's also shorter than the Legacy. The Outback sport is the Impreza version of the Outback, and has taller tires and different suspension. It's a wagon. All of this information is avaible by searching here and cars.com and edmunds and whatnot.

Also, if you're concerned about fitting a ladder, before I had my racks, I could fit my 185 skis (about 6ft) in the back with the seat folded down in my 93 Legacy sedan. My driver's seat is all the way back, too.

  4. I'll have to look it up.

ok, $16.95 actually. Only 12 of them left in the country.

Holy crap! Seriously? I used to have one. I went and got it at a dealership when I first got my car because it didn't come with a Subaru key. Then it broke like a year later, and they didn't have any when I went to get another one. I think it's still sitting in a drawer somewhere. Maybe I should try to glue it together.

  5. I went from 185/70-14s to 205/55-16s. Can you guess why? Anyway, the wheels look so much better than the 14s with hubcaps, the tires fill out the wheel wells a bit more, and they don't rub at all. The tires are pretty close to the spring perches in the back, which might cause a problem if I replace them with another 205/55 with a wider section width. I'll probably go down to a 205/50 with my next set, though, and I think the new struts I'm putting in give a little more room, anyway.

  6. The whole assembly with strut tops and everything will bolt right in. I think scottzg on legacycentral has RS suspension on his Legacy.

By switching the rear strut tops with Group-N GC strut tops, I'm putting 2004 USDM STi suspension in my 93 Legacy.

93-01, Imprezas were pretty much the same as the BC/BF (and I think BD/BG). On Imprezas, after 01 the bolt pattern on the rear tops changed, so new strut tops are needed to fit 02+ suspension. For 05, the front hubs of the STi changed. Everything else is pretty much the same, and will fit a BC/BF. I think 95-99 Legacies are also the same. For 00 the rear changed and doesn't fit.

Some of us think that the strut tops are all the same pretty much until 02. 90-99 Legacy tops are the same as 93-01 Impreza tops. The upper spring perch changed.

    1. I assume you're putting WRX brakes on? Yes they'll fit, but they're the same size (or do you have drums?). There's a thread in the faq on the nasioc suspension forum about rear brakes.

    2. The bushings vary by size. Mounts and endlinks work, bushings need to be the right size for the bar you're using. Don't know about the shifter or transmission.

    4. I think so. People put WRX and GC seats in their Legacies, so I don't see why it wouldn't work the other way around. Might require some slight modification, though.
