  1. Hello all

Now that I have this thing on the road I am working out the bugs and I am a little confused. I know the d/r 4 speeds have issues with the crunch between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd but this one is odd. it is very intermittant is shifts fine for a day or so then suddenly it goes back to crunching and sometimes grinding. feels like the clutch is not dis engaging but I know it is. It also has the typical super sloppy shift linkage like lost of us do. if the syncros are bad shouldnt it crunch all the time not sometimes or does anyone think it has anything to do with the sloppy shifter. any help would be appreciated

Wish I had swapped the tranny while I had the engine out but didne have time. only drove this car 2 or 3 miles before I tore it apart to replace a bad clutch only to find the clutch was installed wrong.

    bummer:banghead:

  2. I have searched the site high and low and have not been able to come up with an answer. I have this weber on my brat "32/36" and am confused on the adjustments. which screw in the front is the idle mixture screw? I have a thumb screw with a spring wraped arount the threads pointing diagonally at the passenger headlight and a small diameter brass screw pointing straight out the front. I tried to turn the brass one but did not want to force it. and the spring wrapped one did not seem to do much. or am I in the wrong place completely? Also is there any adjustments I need to do on the secondaries? I had hitachies before and understood them well, Webers are very foregin to me. sorry if this has been asked before I just could not find it. BTW I have no Idea what jets are in the carb. The vehicle came from 86Subaru so if anyone on here supplied him with the setup any info would be much appreciated.

    Thanks to all!

  3. well 1 year 3 months after I bought my newest brat from one of you guys I finally had the time to fix it and just got it licenced today. Been over 8 years since I wrecked my last one (god rest her soul) but thanks to her selfless donations I have a runner! and also a thanks to the board I have been trolling on here for a loooong time gathering info and it came in real handy!

    :burnout:

Diesel prices gave me the encouragement to finally tackle getting her running trying to save some fuel money. The brat may not be as comfortable as my truck but it is more fun!!

    thanks for a great site!:banana::banana:

  4. BFG All Terrains are all I run on my full size Bronco and F250. I find they are the only ones that hold up well to the abuse ford front ends give tires

NTB is where I go for them "National Tire and Battery"

  5. Hello

I just got home with my 84 project brat and 1 of the things I would like to do is replace the windshield gasket are they still available. i saw the link for the gen 1 gasket bulk buy but I do not think they will fit. also I have a second one I am going to strip down for parts and I am going to save the windshield any chance of saving the gasket to?

  6. The last brat i had passed the dyno but only after they jumped the car off he dyno because they assumed 4x4 meant it was a rear wheel drive it was REAL funny to watch I should have warned him when he put the car on the rollers but thought it would be funny and it was:lol::banana:

I have a hitachi setup but was hoping not to have to swap it I am happy it has the weber after hearing how much people like them but I guess time will tell after I get it home ad try it

  7. Hello all I am buying a brat from a board member with a weber conversion on it and I am wondering about emmissions. here in st louis MO we have safety inspections with a separate smog test where they run the car on a dyno. Doesnt the weber conversion take away most of the emissions control systems? anyone have a weber conversion in an area that does smog test have any problems??

    Thanks,

    Tim:D

  8. ea 81 is a overhead valve single cam pushrod 1800cc simple motor and the ea 82 is a overhead twin cam 1800 cc motor the ea 82 is a little more complex and has differant intake set ups and generally has a little more power than the ea 81 but the ea 81 is a die hard almost bullet proof engine. this is in the simplest way to explain others on the board will give you much more detailed info I am sure.

  9. The biggest reason i think to do it while it is hot is that it also gets more of the contaminates out. When the engine is hot verythiing is mixed up and all the dirt is suspended in the oil and obviously it also drains better warm.

When the oil is cold not only is it thicker but all the dirt is settled out and more if it will remain on the bottom of the pan until it gets mixed up again by the running engine in your new oil. the filter does not filter everything out.

  10. The one on the before mentioned honda does not turn very much either and it does not engage until it the front turns 30deg i believe. I was just wondering if anyone had tried it especially the off roaders, it obviously would help with manuverability. I would not be surprised if the NEW outbacks did have it I was just curious about the possibility of adding the feature to an older subie weather the technology came from a honda or completly custom to inhance its off road behavior.
