  1. 96's don't have plastic trim. It's a decal. You should be able to get it from a Subaru dealer. There are probably not many other sources.

Hmm,another question would be; How easy would it be to remove the rest of the decals?,and could it be done without messing up the paint?

I wouldn't mind just pulling the decals off,the fender is the exact same color as the rest of the car otherwise and I'm in the process of making my outback stand out a bit from the 1000 or so others driving around my town.

I bought one last year and people must have seen me having fun in it,now they're everywhere.

  2. A replacement front bumper for my 96 outback? Please don't suggest 1stsubaruparts as I tried to place an order with them before only to have it never completed, billed or shipped. No one has one at any local junkyards and I really need another badly. Also theoretically I would think one of a regular Legacy/Legacy GT would work,is that a correct assumption? If so where would I get one?Any help is appreciated.

  3. Thanks for the site and info, although I think for the price difference involved I'd rather go for a JDm low milage engine...both listed for $300 are 130k+ miles vs. 25-60k.

I know the mileage doesn't mean everything as the old 2.2 ran strong at 199k miles, although it consumed a good deal of oil,but I figure a lower mileage motor should last me unti the car falls apart which is as long as I intend to keep it. :D

I almost don't have a preference of which I get,but a 2.5 actuallyhas some things available for it where the 2.2 apparantly doesn't and I'd like a little more power at some point in the future.

It also seemed to me that the 2.2's might be harder to find as they seem to be more in demand and less produced than 2.5's.

  4. Well, it will bolt right in. It will bolt to your transmission and it will bolt to your engine cross member. Now, wiring may be a little bit more of a hassle, but it could be done.

I'd find an EJ22T and transplant that in instead :headbang:

Does anyone know what the wiring differences might be? And I'd love to find a ej22t for it,but fo one thing I need to replace the engine asap and I've got no idea where to even begin looking for one and for another thing that's probably more expensive than I'm able to afford right now.

  5. So,long story short got my clutch replaced and then a few days after getting it back my coolant reservoir mysteriously falls off while I'm driving and now I'm the proud owner of a 2.2 l fused peice of aluminum.

My question since I'll be replacing the engine anyway is how easily will a 2.5 go in to the car in place of the stock 2.2?,is there any modification involved or anything like that? And also, will it work with my 5 spd manual transmission without troubles?

  6. If you have MT then your part numbers are

    20330AC300 right and 20330AC310 left

If you have AT your part numbers are

    20330AC320 and 20330AC330

L model part numbers end in 020,030,040,050; so they are different part numbers. No idea about physical fit.

Part numbers from Subaru Fast US cdrom. They sort of line up with description on 1stsubaru, if you do search by part number.

    Thanks.

  7. I use Mobil 1 10w-30 Synth. I drive crazy highway miles, and short 1 mile trips from my house to campus... it works great :D

So,a question then?,what oil do you guys think I should be using in my 2.2 OBW? I drive it hard and it regularly goes up near the rev limiter (because it pulls so nice :headbang: ),I drive a mix of highway and high speed backroads...what should I use?

  8. The way I understand it, cars with hydraulic lifters (pre-1997) recommend against 5w30 for highway driving. Remember all the changes in the engines between those years. If someone knows the real reason, please chime in. I just go along with the 15W40 that my mechanic puts in year-round. Works fine for all our Subies.

    Brian

Mine's a '96 and it tells me to use 5w30 in the manual.

  9. Please help

My exhaust(sports) on my 98 forester is making a lot of popping sounds

The spark plugs are brand new and the exhaust has been checked and that's not the problem...

The sound mainly happens when i softly push the accellarater down and when i let go it lets of a pop or two..

I also have noticed that since the problem has started that my fuel isn't lasting.

The car is also hitting 200,000km mark. i think that's about 120,000miles

Could this problem be related to the fact that my speedo doesn't work and my engine light is on..

any help would be much be appreciated

    Thanks, Michael

My car backfires like that too,I can't really answer your question though.
