  1. Yea I did. Lol. Let's just say the EJ25 motor was making rod knock noises, and I was more concerned about not towing the automatic than I was saving that motor. So it got really hot and started smoking like crazy. It looked like a jet was taking off from the highway, it was so bad my friend following me had to pull over and let the smoke clear. It was also spewing coolant out of the overflow tank, and the gauge said it was at normal operating temp. So I know for sure that the gauge was incorrect.
  2. Only if the temp gauge sender is not on the motor. I swapped in an EJ22 that came out of my Brighton, and the gauge was working fine before.
  3. I recently bought a 96 outback with a bad motor, and the very first time I started it (it was cold, hadn't ran in a few months) the temp gauge instantly went right up to regular operating temperature. I thought this was odd. I ended up swapping in an EJ22 for reliability purposes, and I thought that this would possibly solve the problem, but it did not. The temp gauge still rises right up to operating temp as soon as you start it. My only logical thought is that this is the actual gauge cluster? Any suggestions?
  4. It's for sure the crankshaft seal, I can see it leaking like crazy. I'm all the way down that far now. How do I remove the seal?
  5. Not seeing how to do this in my "amazing" Chilton's manual. I have a 97 Legacy Brighton (EJ22) and she is leaking oil like crazy from that seal. Do I have to pull the crank shaft to do this? Or do I just pull the front pulley and everything off.
  6. I just checked for one at the junkyard. I did not see a second sensor anywhere on the back of the transmission. The only wires I could see running that direction were for the following; o2 sensor, and reverse/neutral.
  7. Once. It bounced to zero while i was going forty and then bounced back up to forty agian.
  8. I just did some more research, it looks like we were wrong about VSS 1. It's not located in the cluster, but on the back of the transmission. VSS 2 apparently controls fuel delivery and stuff. That would definately be causing it. I think I need to replace that, but let me know please if I'm right. They are probably spendy!
  9. I have a 97' Legacy Brighton. (2.2) My rev limiter comes on at 4,400, it also idle's low and sometimes just doesn't run real great. I scanned the codes and it says that I have a bad speed sensor. (VSS) I cleared the codes and it ran fine for about an hour, but then it quickly through the code again. When the code is cleared it runs amazing, so I think it is a sensor - I also check all over for broken vacuum hoses or oil breather hoses. We first tried replacing the gauge cluster just in case, and when that didn't fix it, we moved onto the sensor thats located on the transmission. However, I can't find one at a junkyard, and id rather not buy a new one to find out it might not be the problem. Any suggestions? Is this common?
  10. Yea, she specifically want's a Forester. Both her and her brother were wanting to get Suby's. I just helped her brother pick out an Sti and he bought it. (its an 05'). Funny cause I don't even have a suby anymore, i just sold my SS. Her brother is in the air force though, and hes in Colorado right now, so I even test drove an Sti for him lol.
  11. Hey guys. My friend is looking for a 02' - 04' Forester. She prefers auto, and is looking to spend under $12k. Not sure if that price is reasonable. That's just what I was told. I don't think she's to concerned on color. Let me know.
  12. Hey guys. This is the original owner. I used to be on this site quite often when I had my Loyale. I didn't actually drift very much at all. Kinda hard to drift when most of the power is driving to the front wheels because its a automatic. Only times I drifted were in the snow and twice on the beach (which is horrible on an LSD differential btw). Getting stuck in the snow is what caused it to go out. I pulled in to get gas one day in Centralia, and I started spinning. All of a sudden it made this horrible grinding noise and it didn't really want to fully engage into gear. I knew at that point that it was toast. It finally started going, so I drove it for another month until it finally gave in all the way. I had already made up my mind that if this transmission went out, i wasn't putting in an auto because it will only go out agian. That auto is weak. Because I need to raise 6k by august, I decided agianst spending $1,500 on converting to a WRX 5 spd. I picked up an 83' Volvo 244 for $150. Guy couldn't get it to start when he showed me so I offered him $150. Got it running in a few hours. It's turbocharged with an aftermarket Garret turbo, is a manual, and is RWD. Car runs and drives great and the body is in good condition. Is a lot faster than my old Legacy (all though I love that car). I'm still a Subaru fanatic, but I want to wait until I have the money to buy one with a 5 spd already. Probably a used WRX, and just rebuild the motor, or swap in a built up ej22t.
  13. hey guys its been a LONG time since ive been on here. I don't have a Loyale anymore. i got a Legacy SS about a year and a half ago. it is SWEET! i think my alternator is going bad. lights keep dimming under load (dash lights, and head lights) its starting to get worse. anyone have an extra they'd sell?
  14. Ok..everything is still a go for the meet.... Thanks Spanky Pete for posting the the directions for Jones Rd.. Remember guys were still meeting at the Park and Ride... And just ahead of time...when we get on to Jones Rd...its pure washboard..dont even attempt any rallying stunts becuase its a really screwed up road. It looks innocent, but anything over 35 is insane..trust me, i wrecked my first car up there and went off a cliff so i know what its like... So other than the road being kind of dangerous the off roading should be fun..saturday might be nice for a change, and its supposed to be dry all week, so it should dry out the mud hole a bit so its not to hard to get through... See everyone on Saturday at 11, and have a safe trip getting here, -Bill
  15. Awesome...i've been into rallying for about 5 years so i know most of the cars in club rally. What car are you guys running...? -Bill
  16. wow...that is really awesome. I really wanted to swap an EJ18 into my Loyale. But I cant afford it, so i decided to just rebuild the EA82T engine i already have laying around. I'am just going to go through the whole engine, and extract as many ponies as i can, and clean it up like crazy. I've got a lot of work though... Good work man!...let us know how it drives (go waste some ricers) -Bill
  17. Hey, Not sure if i spelled that right, but there is a rally race coming up on the 25th of February.. If anyones interested...maybe we could set that as a meet and watch the rally.. Let me know, Bill P.S.- If you guys are interested i will organize and get all the directions and stuff...
  18. Honda driver=Spend tons of money for exhaust stuff....(they spend about $400) Subaru owner??-Cut the muffler off, empty out the cat, weld on a strait pipe and call it good...and it still sounds better...(You spend about $10 for the exhaust piping)...lol
  19. Oh ok...you familiar with Jones Rd?? There is like a big mud hole up there, with some hillclimbes and stuff...then a bunch of gravel roads and stuff...its pretty fun up there... Then i thought we could go cruising or something, and if there isn't to many people we could stop at this hamburger joint in Vader..awesome food there... Thanks, Bill
  20. Hey, Just got another 4WD Turbo Subaru tonight. Its a wagon though...its been wrecked and it looks like the headgasket is pretty screwed...(not sure how the timing on that worked out) anyway, the turbo and heads are going on to my loyale, and then the rest of the car is going to scrap, so if anyone is interested let me know...its in pretty rough shape...if you can tow it its yours...(if i haven't taken the air struts out for the other Subaru) Let me know... Bill
  21. Sweet!!! Time to swap then...man i'am having a good day...i got another 4WD Subaru W/ Turbo, i found i can take that turbo and put it on my car that already runs...and i got a date with this girl...like three good things in a day....i'am on a roll guys!!! Thanks! Bill
