  1. Interesting... never thought of putting a spacer in a drive shaft before..I always take them to a drive shaft shop and tell them what I need done with it. The main reason I would move the axle rearward is to make it easier to trim the wheel opening a bit more. there just isnt much room on a wagon to trim the front of the opening before you get into the back door. I am looking into building up 2 of my wagons, first I want to build one up fro my wife, that would be my 86 with the 2 speed. I would like to get some 27's under it. Then when I get young and rich I would build up my 80 for myself. That one I want a bit bigger though, 33's would be nice. should probably put in a better motor too. and a 2 speed. or somthing I am still learning what my ptions are.
  2. So I was looking through some pics today of lifted subarus and got to wondering if anyone had ever moved the rear axle backward in the car when they lifted it for better tire clearance at the front of the wheel well? The front of the back wheel well seems to be one of the biggest limiting factors for tire size on these cars, well, wagons any way as all 3 of mine are. With the back door there there just isnt much room for fender trimming. I would think even 2 inches back would offer a huge increase in available tire space. Heck if it were feasable I would go as much as 5 inches. It dosent cost that much to get a drive shaft lengthened.
  3. I would love to tag along with a pack of subarus on a run through walker valley! I dont currently have a subaru I would even consider running throgh there though so I would be going in my CJ5. just a heads up though, there have been some changes made to walker this last year, some trails closed and some new ones opened, I havent been there since the changes so I dont know what all they are for sure. Also, walker valley orv park is closed from Nov 1 through march 31 each winter to preserv the trails and streams from mud run off. I have been trying to find a current trail map of walker but have not been able to yet, I f I come up with anything I will post it here somewhere. [/url] walker valley winter closure info
  4. wow, that pic must have been taken quite a while ago, that rock is alot bigger now. the dirt has been dug/washed out from around it alot more now then the way it is in that pic. I will have a dig through my photos, I should have one of my jeep on that rock, I kknow the request was for sub pics though. And I have always run that trail in the other dirrection. Its never hurt my jeep but I know that rock takes out alot of tie rods when you try to go over it in the other dirrection!
  5. Hi all, have been poking around here for a couple of hours again and reading about diferent motor and trans swapps. I was wondering if there is a chart or somthing somwhere that would explane what all of the engine codes mean hopefully with the specs for each motor. Also, a similar chart on interchangeability would be cool too. I would like to build up one of my subs for hard core wheeling, preferably with at least a 30" tire. either my '80 wagon witch I would prefer because I like the body style better, or my '86 with the 2 speed t-case. How about the '80 with a newer feuel injected motor (any sugestions) and my 2 speed? Thanks for any info. Never tried to buld up any of my subs before just my jeep!
  6. Greetings All.... I just stumbled acrosss this forum today while I was wandering around the net and thought I would join up and say hi. I own 3 sub wagons, an '80 and 2 '86's all stock except for the 15" pug wheels on the 80. I also have a '73 jep cj5 as my main 'wheeler. My wife and I live on lake cavanaugh road just outside walker valley so we know the trails there prety well. If any of you are ever in the area feel free to look me up if you ever need a place to wrench on a rig.
