  1. Subaru over here will tell you it has been overtightened if it is cracked around the rolled steel inserts, (even if it is only a few thousands kms/miles old!!) I am a HUGE fan of the alloy cover. Over here they didn't go plastic till about 99 on Turbo cases, but on N/A's they were plastic in the 'cheaper' 97 'updates'. Also, while you are there, remove the piston pin bungs, (large, (14mm?), cap screw on lh side of bell housing behind flywheel., (there is one behind the breather plate also, but it doesn't matter if that one leaks. THese 'bungs' use an alloy washer and hardening type Permatex Sealant, (no 4?). Remove the bung and buff the dried sealant off it. Clean the surfcace of where the washer meets the case, making sure not put any crap down the bore?? Put some non hardening sealant, like Permatex Aviation Gasket -No 3), or even threebond works well! Cheers sixpack
  2. It is, (from what I can gather), an oil additive designed to give lifters/lash adjusters a 'new lease on life'... 'Every body has them, (countries I mean:D), just with different names.... if I told you the best ones are basically light grade kerosine would you believe me?? LOL! Cheers Sixpack
  3. The pump that the carby versions run is an electric diaphragm type fuel pump, this will 'click' quite fast until pressure is built up. This system runs a return line from the carby 'needle and seat' inlet fitting that is a smaller ID than the delivery line. If it runs fine, the pump is fine:D Cheers Sixpack BTW: if you have cold start issues but it runs fine when warm I would be looking at Choke settings, unless they are semi-auto. ie: you put choke on, (pull it out), and it 'jumps' in by itself when a predetermined temp is reached? If it is full auto, (thermal bi-metallic strip), then set the choke at full cold to about 75% closed. Note that when you start a cold Engine on full choke it should not 'choke' itself, (ie chug and blow smoke), if it does the 'fast idle linkage may need adjusting, (this is done by bending the arm that goes to the throttle plate on the primary side to the choke butterfly plate.).
  4. Hey G'Day, I thought the EA81 had adjustable valves.....which btw, is my shot at it...... Someone said something about inlet manifold gaskets, also a good call, (someone who knows!). I would do a tappet/valve clearance adjustment and see how you go. If it carby, then it will pretty much feed both sides if it's feeding one, (unless you have dropped one of the aircleaner wingnuts down there!!) HTH, Sixpack Subaru
