  1. The dealer should be able to order the fluid for you. I wouldn't recommend using anything else. Dima in NZ has reported success using ATF Dexron 3, but use at your own risk.
  2. As long as the car isn't in 4WD at the time, you'll be just fine. You can even tow with all four on the ground as long as the trans is in neutral and its not in 4WD.
  3. I scanned in a 1983 FSM: http://mshoup.us/docs/fsm/ Not bad to do as long as you have an ADF on your scanner. Scanning page by page would be a royal PITA. That's been up there for a few months, no litigation or anything like that. I doubt there would be any problems unless you started selling for money. If you want to send the manual to me, I could scan it in for you using my work's ADF. This thing is quick
  4. The fuel pump is under the car, on the passenger side in front of the gas tank. It sits on its own little shelf.
  5. If its an EA81 GL-10, its most likely non-Turbo. Ergo, will have a carb pump and will work. A quick way to see if the car was Turbo is to look at the dash. It'll have either a turbo light (if its digital) or a gauge (if its analog).
  6. Distirbutor is supposed to be at 8 BTDC. Make sure you don't have the plug wires on in the wrong order. And the timing belts, the camshafts are aligned 180 degrees out, right? Good. They should be.
  7. Flywheel can go on ONLY ONE way. The bolt holes are offset.
  8. Don't need 'em any more. The tire store my mom took the car to said the two tires with leaks were unrepairable. I took 'em here to Peerless Tyre and they repaired 'em. So, no longer need tires. Thanks for the offer though!
  9. Why the question marks? What do you mean no one invited you? This is open to anyone. If you're willing to drive out from Iowa to Colorado, feel free. Though, it would be a long drive for just a meal.
  10. Dude, aren't you going to be at the Dragon? I'm out. We're gonna be packing the car for the trip to Orlando.
  11. How many more times are we going to see this damn thing?
  12. Depends on what you're mixing and matching. Carb block with Turbo heads and a Turbo, yeah, it'll lose reliability. Carb block into an SPFI car because the SPFI one broke, its not any less reliable. You can mix and match suspension, and as long as the geometry is the same, you're not ruining reliability. The only guys that really have much to worry about reliability are those building hi-power EA82Ts. (There isn't anyone building a hi-power EA81T yet though)
  13. These cars may look complicated, but they certainly aren't. They are very simple cars. There isn't anything on these cars that make them more complicated than say a Volvo.
  14. Don't diss 'em. I used to own one. It actually was very reliable, and made it to 160K with a lot of neglect. I drove 12K once on the same oil... I hated the car, but just couldn't kill it (until the head gasket blew).
  15. That says it best right there. My first car was a Ford Tempo that my parents bought for me. They way overpaid for it, and it was a POS. I actually tried to find some Ford forums to help me diagnose the problems, and everyone there were asshats. Onto the second car, a Chevy Celebrity that my dad had owned. Way more reliable than the said Tempo. It actually got me from point A to point B. However, had no water temp gauge, the car overheated without my knowledge, and blew a head gasket. Another one bites the dust. My second car, a Toyota Paseo. I enjoyed this car, but the community I found for them was full of ricers. I just could never get into the community, wasn't my type of people. This car met its demise with my rolling of it in the mountains... which pushed me to buy a Subaru. First Subaru was a 1988 XT6. I found the community at xt6.net. Then I found the community here. And the rest is history. The XT6 was the first car that I actually met people in person that I got along with. Its what makes a Subaru a Subaru.
  16. I don't believe that. I've yet to see a so-called "moderator". My guess is they're not human. Probably robots created by aliens plotting to take over the world, one forum at a time.
  17. First off, the swear filter is in place for a reason. You get more respect if you don't fake swear. Second, it would be advisable to change the tensioners at the same time as the timing belts. Would also be advisable to do the water pump at the same time. The oil pump however, they last for the length of the motor. All's you'd need to do is replace the seals on it, which I would recommend to do at the same time as your timing belts.
  18. The new Accel coils are terrible quality. I had one in my XT Turbo... lasted two months before giving up the ghost.
  19. The IAC valve is probably dirty, or the solenoid is non functional. On the front of the throttle body, there's a solenoid bolted to a valve. Take the hose off the top of the valve, and spray some carb cleaner down it in an effort to clean it out. My 88 Wagon did the same thing, and I had to replace the solenoid with a junkyard one. That cured it.
  20. Ah c'mon, BGD told us he could run his carb off of a 45PSI pump with a pressure regulator If BGD could do it, then we could do it.
