So my EA81T was running just fine today. Drove it for about a total of 15 miles today, came home parked it. Went out about 1.5 hours later, start the car, and this terrible racket is coming from under the hood. Something is rattling, rumbling, I can't figure it out. Its sounds like a rumbling almost at idle. As the throttle is opened, the sound gets quieter until the throttle is closed, then the noise is really loud as the engine decelerates. Its none of the accessories making noise. There's plenty of oil. Depressing the clutch pedal does not change the sound at all. I'm kinda really at a loss here.

If their plugs are anything like the security system they installed in our new computer labs, I wouldn't touch the plugs with a 20 foot poll. There's been so many things wrong in the first two weeks with this new security system they put in.

Yes, they're both close enough to the same specs that you will be fine.

As long as you don't use a 2WD N/A clutch, it should fit.

I was under the impression that the Nippon dizzy was only on 2WD EA81s? If that's the case, you won't get it to fit an EA82 (easily). Are you sure the second one you have is a nippon? Also, with EA81s at least, the Nippon and Hitachi dizzies have the same specs. Same curve, same spark, etc. You wouldn't notice one lick of difference between the two as far as performance.

What year EA81 is this? Looks like the 84+ style pedal. 83 and earlier use a different style to connect to the pedal.

+1 My High-Comp EA82 was anything but reliable. Perhaps if I had a low-comp one, I wouldn't be too disappointed. On the other hand, my EA81T, the pushrod predecessor to the EA82T has been nothing but reliable. Yet to leave me stranded. Just got a noisy lifter.

Ouch, that sucks. Beautiful car too. Hopefully a fix or replacement will come soon and look good!

Bungee cords, and strap everything to the roof

Its not that you likely have a blown headgasket, its that you do. That's the only way you can mix oil into the coolant (apart from massive cracks in the head or something)

Here's a good article on how Octane is rated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating US does use a different rating system then other countries. Fact. US uses the AKI system Europe uses the RON system Other places, who knows.

Most auto parts stores will let you borrow a radiator cap pressure tester, to make sure its holding pressure.

Various countries use various different methods for measure octane levels. Premium at lower elevations in the US is 93, at higher elevations its 91. Its probably the same octane as your premium (or pretty close), just its rated differently.

I run 85 oct (regular gas here at these higher elevations) and have no problems in my EA81 Turbo. And the whole don't pump gas thing is absurd. Anyone with a decent understanding of economics knows that it won't make a difference.

Sounds like poor grounding. The current draw from the electrical drops the current running to the ECU enough so that its not firing right... Check all of the grounds, and make sure they're clean. MPFI... All Turbos are MPFI

It would probably be easier to strip it down... Less wire clutter to have to deal with.

Looking to get something to start out on? I've been recommended by numerous people to get a FWD car. 80s Civic, 80s FWD Subaru or FWD Impreza. This will make it easier to learn how to control a car. Once you get pretty good, then go up to AWD, and you'll be doing much better than if you started with AWD... at least this is how I'm told.

-1 on the glass dust... I would stay away from an angle grinder. Sounds like its already shattered, and you just can't get pieces out? Get a big pair of gloves and pick 'em out by hand...
